Level 1
The Pilates for Parkinsons program at Treloar Physiotherapy is an integrated approach to training based on Joseph Pilates principles of improving co-ordination, spine flexibility, balance, stamina and strength. Studies have shown that exercise can ease the severity of Parkinson’s symptoms and Pilates is a great point of access for clients of all abilities. The combination of equipment and mat exercises allows for functional training that transposes to activities of daily living.
Clients are encouraged to take a minimum of 4 private sessions to learn the foundations of the work and equipment and to allow their instructor to assess their needs. After that time, group sessions (maximum of 3:1) can be organized to provide a supportive and fun experience.
Our instructors have backgrounds that include nursing, physiotherapy and kinesiology, as well as fully certified Pilates credentials. Their specialized training allows them to offer individualized instruction in a supportive group setting and positive atmosphere for clients with Parkinsons.
