Meet The Team: Matt Szeto
We are pleased to introduce you to Matt Szeto! Matt has experience in New Zealand working with patients aged 5 to 95, with problems varying from head to toe.
He has also worked with athletes in men’s and women’s Premier Grade soccer teams, and Regional Representative Futsal teams at National Championship level.
Matt has completed post-graduate manual therapy, and dry needling courses, which he integrates with exercise and patient education to individualise his treatment approach.
We sat down with him for a rapid fire Q&A session, and here's what he had to say:
1. Why did you become a physio?
My first experience with physiotherapy came after I sustained some injuries playing soccer, which put me on the sidelines and cost me my place in some age-group representative teams. I became fascinated with the way physiotherapists would take my story, figure out and explain my injury to me, and then help me on my journey back to full fitness. Those experiences inspired me to become a physio.
2. What is your favourite way to break a sweat?
Depending on the season, my favourite way to get the heart racing is being out skiing or mountain biking.
3. Who do you look up to and why?
My Dad is absolutely a major role model in my personal life. His values and emphasis on family and respect are things I’d like to think I’ve learnt and demonstrate in my life.
Professionally I was fortunate to have an amazing mentor straight out of university. I was continually challenged and pushed to keep learning and keep improving as a physio.
4. What is the most challenging thing you've overcome?
Plucking up the courage to leave home and move to the other side of the world on my own.
5. What is your proudest accomplishment?
Graduating university with my Physiotherapy degree.
6. If you could only eat one more meal what would it be?
Kiwi-style summer Christmas BBQ.
7. Last thing you read?
