Chelsea Chua

Physiotherapist

BKin, MScPT

What is your background & training?

I completed my Master of Science in Physical Therapy at the University of Toronto, and my Bachelor of Kinesiology at the University of British Columbia. I am currently advancing my orthopaedic manual therapy skills and have received my certification for completing Level 1 and Level 2 Lower Quadrant of the National Orthopaedic Division Advanced Integrated Musculoskeletal (AIM) Physiotherapy Program. I have also taken additional training in pelvic floor rehabilitation from Marcy Dayan and Pelvic Health Solutions, and can provide physiotherapy for pelvic floor dysfunction that may be related to urinary/bowel incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and pelvic pain.

What inspired you to choose this career path?

I thrive as a kinesthetic learner and always knew I wanted to work in a career where I could help people in a very hands-on manner. During my kinesiology degree, I had plenty of experience working with people living with spinal cord injuries and other neurological conditions and so I developed a passion and appreciation for how our mind and body was like an ever-adapting puzzle working together to optimize our daily function. I was then inspired to choose physiotherapy as a career so I could help people understand the puzzle that is their own body, and how they can move better to feel their best while applying hands-on techniques.

Why do you choose to work at Treloar?

I value being in a diverse team where all team members are on board with growing and thriving in a positive environment. Additionally, the calibre of therapists at Treloar that I would be surrounded with and learning from would have been trained by industry leaders in manual therapy that have had 40 years of experience. The two combined create a great, close knit team atmosphere that genuinely encourages lifelong learning!

What are you personally passionate about?

I am very passionate about food and coffee, and enjoy lifting weights, playing golf, pickleball, and going kickboxing to keep up with my food adventures. During the pandemic, learning how to brew a perfect cup of pour-over coffee was what kept me sane, and now continues to be a vital part of my morning routine.
