Peter Kmiecik

What is your background & training?

I grew up in Bolton Ontario and moved to Vancouver in 2019 seeking to be closer to the mountains and ocean. I graduated from the University of Guelph with a Bachelors in Human Kinetics and a minor in Neuroscience and went on to complete my Masters in Physical Therapy at Queen’s University. Since my masters, I have completed the Advanced Diploma of Manual and Manipulative Therapy portion in my Graduate Certificate in Orthopaedic Manipulative Physiotherapy (GCOMPT) program at UBC and became a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Therapy (FCAMPT) in 2021. Furthermore, I completed the research portion of the GCOMPT program developing a systematic review examining the effects of intrinsic foot strengthening on running related injuries in long-distance runners.  I have also completed my Dry Needling training achieving the Anatomical Neuropathic Intramuscular Stimulation (AN-IMS 1) certification.

What inspired you to choose this career path?

Since I can remember, I have always wanted to work in a medical field due to my interest in science and in order to help people who need it most. The application of movement and exercise in a health-care context made Physiotherapy a perfect fit. Furthermore, as someone who participated in multiple sports growing up, such as soccer, skiing and mountain biking, I had experienced multiple injuries in the past, which lead me to work closely with different physiotherapist’s. I was inspired by the impact they had not only in healing my injury, but also in how drastically they changed my lifestyle for the better.

Why do you choose to work at Treloar?

I have always wanted to work in an environment with experienced clinicians who are dedicated in elevating their practice, encouraging ongoing education, and providing mentorship and support; Treloar is exactly that. At Treloar, there is a great emphasis on manual therapy and active rehabilitation, which fits in how I approach my practice. The team is also very welcoming and supportive, making it a wonderful place to work.

What are you personally passionate about?

I am passionate about ongoing education and it has always been a goal of mine to teach in the future. Outside of work, I’m either traveling (not so much these days) or trying to stay active by hiking, climbing, mountain biking, or playing soccer or volleyball in the city. Come winter time, I try to get out skiing as often as I can.
