Cherry Tung
Registered Acupuncturist (R.Ac.)
What is your background & training?
I am a Registered Acupuncturist in Vancouver BC with a doctorate degree in acupuncture. I was also a registered Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner in Hong Kong for over 10 years.
I graduated from the University of Hong Kong’s 5-year Bachelor Degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine and the 2-year Master Degree in Acupuncture, Moxibustion & Tui na programmes. After further studies and research in acupuncture for 3 years, I also earned my Doctorate Degree in Acupuncture, Moxibustion & Tui na from the Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine.
Besides formal education, I am deeply grateful to my numerous clinical teachers in Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture who have had a significant influence on me. They have devoted so much of their time and energy into training and shaping me into the acupuncturist I am today.
What inspired you to choose this career path?
Destiny and great teachers.
I was raised in a family with generations of medical background in both traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine. My maternal grandfather and uncle were Chinese medicine doctors while my father was trained in western medicine. My first encounter with acupuncture was at birth when my mother had prolonged difficulties from delivering me.
My father had always expected me to become a doctor like my brother, but I didn’t have an interest in medicine until I met my enlightening teacher Doctor Yang Tong, who opened the door to the intriguing world of traditional Chinese medicine by articulating the fundamental philosophy and principles in a vivid manner. I began learning Chinese medicine as a side interest, until my father suddenly passed away from a stroke.
After which, I transformed grief into determination. I went back to school to study Chinese medicine. After graduating from my bachelor and master degrees, I met my acupuncture teacher Lin Liang Chuan who brought me to a different level of interpreting symptoms and body structure. With the delicate palpation and acupuncture skills I acquired, I am committed to empowering individuals for a second wind.
