Vancouver’s Finest: Meet Our Clinical Pilates Instructors

Amanda Wong

Physiotherapist, Clinical Pilates Instructor

BKin, MScPT

What is your background & training?

I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Kinesiology and a minor in Psychology. Then I moved to Edmonton, where I completed my post-graduate Master of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Alberta.  I have gained a keen interest in incorporating clinical Pilates into my practice and have since completed both the Calibrate Pilates training as well as the Level I Rehabilitation Stream with STOTT Pilates (Mat and Reformer).

What inspired you to choose this career path?

I was first exposed to physiotherapy in high school when my grandmother had a stroke. She stayed at a rehabilitation hospital where I saw firsthand how physiotherapy improved her strength and function daily, allowing her to reach her goals. That sparked my desire to help others and my curiosity about the human body and biomechanics, which led me to pursue physiotherapy.

Why do you choose to work at Treloar?

I chose to work at Treloar because I want to be a part of a team that values lifelong learning. I want to continually expand my knowledge and work alongside a diverse group of talented therapists who have extensive experience in various areas.

What are you personally passionate about?

I have a passion for helping individuals achieve their goals, empowering them to take on an active role throughout their rehabilitation journey and having fun during the process!

Outside the clinic, I enjoy running, camping, hiking with my dog and volunteering at my local animal shelter.

Clinical Pilates Vancouver FAQs

Clinical Pilates is beneficial for individuals of all fitness levels looking to enhance their physical well-being. Whether you’re recovering from an injury, seeking to improve your athletic performance, or simply aiming to maintain a healthy lifestyle, Clinical Pilates offers a tailored approach to meet your unique needs and goals.

Clinical Pilates is guided by registered physiotherapists and is specifically designed to cater to individual health conditions, injuries, and fitness goals. Unlike traditional Pilates, which may follow a one-size-fits-all approach, Clinical Pilates involves a personalized program that focuses on improving core stability, balance, strength, and flexibility, ensuring a safer and more effective exercise regimen.

Your first session will include a comprehensive assessment by a registered physiotherapist to understand your medical history, physical condition, and fitness objectives. This assessment helps in designing a Pilates program that is specifically tailored to your body’s needs. You’ll be introduced to the basic principles of Pilates and start with exercises that aim to build your core stability and overall body awareness.

The time it takes to see results from Clinical Pilates can vary depending on individual goals, consistency of practice, and starting fitness levels. Generally, participants may begin to notice improvements in posture, flexibility, and core strength within a few weeks of regular sessions. However, long-term benefits and achieving specific fitness or rehabilitation goals might take longer.
