Kind Words From Our Clients
Understanding Concussions and Their Impact
A concussion is an injury to the brain that can happen with or without a blow to the head. Most concussions resolve within 1-4 weeks, although some people can experience persistent symptoms after this amount of time. Common symptoms are headache, neck pain, fatigue, dizziness, feeling “in a fog” and sleep disturbances. Physiotherapy can be extremely useful in improving concussion symptoms and allowing the person to resume regular physical activities.
Your Personalized Concussion Assessment
An initial concussion assessment is usually 45-60 minutes and is performed to identify and prioritize symptoms related to a concussion. The physical assessment may include testing of the head, eyes, neck, balance, and/or vestibular system. Treatment is based on assessment findings and will include a combination of education and graded exercise, along with manual therapy, vestibular rehabilitation, oculomotor retraining or acupuncture as required.

Concussion Clinic Vancouver FAQs
When Should You Refer to a Concussion Clinic?
When a person has sustained a head injury, it is important to refer them to a concussion clinic as soon as possible. This is because the symptoms of a concussion can vary greatly and may not be immediately apparent. A concussion clinic has healthcare professionals who can provide an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan that will help the individual recover quickly and safely. Post-concussion symptoms that should prompt referral to a concussion clinic include headache, dizziness, confusion, difficulty concentrating, and memory issues.
What Should I Expect During My First Visit for Concussion Rehabilitation?
During your initial visit, expect a comprehensive assessment focusing on your symptoms and medical history. Your physiotherapist will conduct various tests to evaluate your head, neck, balance, and possibly your vision and vestibular system. This session is crucial for a personalized rehabilitation plan. While the assessment is thorough, our team prioritizes your comfort and will adjust the evaluation based on your tolerance to ensure it’s a positive step towards recovery.
How Long Does Concussion Rehabilitation Typically Take?
The duration of concussion rehabilitation varies significantly among individuals, depending on the severity of the concussion and the symptoms presented. While some clients may see substantial improvement within a few weeks, others with more persistent symptoms might require a longer rehabilitation period. Your physiotherapist will monitor your progress closely and adjust your treatment plan as needed to support your recovery journey effectively.
