Kheya McGill
Physiotherapist
BKin, MPT
What is your background & training?
I completed my Bachelor of Kinesiology at the University of British Columbia (UBC). During my undergraduate degree, I spent my summers conducting research with the Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery and the BC Injury and Prevention Unit, both at BC Children’s Hospital. After graduating, I worked for two years as a Kinesiologist at a private physiotherapy clinic in Ladner, BC. It was during this time that I discovered my passion for physiotherapy and decided to pursue it further.
I returned to UBC to complete my Master of Physical Therapy, during which I completed my Level 1 training in Advanced Integrated Musculoskeletal (AIM) Physiotherapy. My years of clinical experience and research have prepared me to work with a broad range of clients. I’m committed to continually challenging myself and expanding my skills as I grow in this field.
What inspired you to choose this career path?
My sister was my biggest inspiration for choosing a career in healthcare. Growing up, she underwent 14 brain surgeries and required extensive rehabilitation after one surgery that left her in a coma and paralyzed on half of her body. Watching the incredible impact her medical and rehab teams had on her life made me certain that I wanted to work in healthcare, although I wasn’t quite sure in what capacity.
While working as a Kinesiologist, I realized that physiotherapy is the perfect blend of everything I care about. I love building long-term connections with patients, supporting them through the entire course of their rehabilitation, and witnessing the power of movement firsthand. Having grown-up playing competitive soccer, volleyball, and dealing with my own injuries, physiotherapy has allowed me to combine my passion for rehabilitation with my love of physical activity.
Why do you choose to work at Treloar?
I chose Treloar because of the incredible team and their commitment to ongoing mentorship and education. I was first introduced to the clinic as a patient, before starting my physiotherapy career, and it was immediately clear how passionate and dedicated the team is. I feel grateful to work in a clinic that prioritizes education, client-centred care, and creating a supportive (and fun) environment.
What are you personally passionate about?
I am passionate about spending time with friends and family, being outdoors, and staying active! I enjoy going to the gym, running, cycling, and playing soccer and volleyball. I spend as much time as I can in the mountains- hiking or backpacking in the summer and skiing in the winter!
