Thea Cooney
Physiotherapist, Physiotherapy-Acupuncture, IMS
BA, BSc, MPT, MCPA, CAFCI, IMS/FDN
What is your background & training?
I completed a BA in Sociology from UVic in 2001, followed by a BSc in Kinesiology and Athletic Therapy from the University of Winnipeg in 2007. I worked as a personal trainer and athletic therapist before going on to complete Masters in PT at UBC in 2011. As an avid learner, I have completed extra training in acupuncture, IMS, running/footwear, and continue to pursue courses in manual therapy.
What inspired you to choose this career path?
Playing every sport I could when I was young led me to a few injuries, but also a fascination with the human body and its capacity to heal. I also find immense gratification in working with people to get them back doing the activities they love.
Why do you choose to work at Treloar?
With such a highly respected reputation in the physio community, I am drawn to Treloar by the mentorship, continued learning, and excellent team of therapists and staff.
What are you personally passionate about?
Outside of work, I’m passionate about respecting this beautiful place we are lucky to call home, animal welfare, and raising my two boys to be good humans. I also love good food and wine, R&R on Hornby Island with my family and dog, and anything soccer!
