Drew Ruby
Kinesiologist
BKin – Specialization in Exercise Science; BCAK
What is your background & training?
I played volleyball all throughout high school and continued to play at Douglas College for several years before transferring to the University of the Fraser Valley to acquire my Bachelors degree in Kinesiology. While playing volleyball at Douglas College, I began to really understand the importance of strength training and conditioning to keep myself healthy and active as the years go on.
During my undergrad, I focused a lot of my attention on foot and ankle pathology due to many ankle sprains I had endured during my volleyball career. I have previously been employed at a medical exercise clinic that primarily deals with patients who have chronic pain and disabilities, and for the last two years I have been putting my knowledge of the foot and ankle to use at an orthotics company. I have also previously worked with various sports teams as a coach and as an athletic trainer.
What inspired you to choose this career path?
I grew up playing many sports on a competitive level, and as I grew older I began to require more and more visits to my physiotherapist to keep myself healthy and active. Eventually I realized that I could take a lot of this acquired knowledge from my physiotherapist and make a career of it while also helping others overcome their pain and disabilities.
Why do you choose to work at Treloar?
Before I began working at Treloar, I had decided to come here as a patient for some treatment on my ankle. I was very impressed with the service and the results that came from these sessions, and I could see myself fitting in well here as a kinesiologist. As well, I knew that the team of physiotherapists here are extremely knowledgeable and I could learn a ton from them while pursuing my goal of becoming a physiotherapist in the future.
What are you personally passionate about?
Outside of work, I love to stay active while playing basketball, volleyball and the occasional round of golf (but only if the ball seems to be cooperating with me on that day).
