Melanie Gris

Physiotherapist, Clinical Pilates Instructor

BSc (Kin), MPT, Clinical Pilates

What is your background & training?

I completed my Bachelor of Science with a major in Kinesiology at Simon Fraser University. I worked as a kinesiologist and personal trainer before achieving my Master of Physical Therapy degree at the University of British Columbia in 2008.

As a physical therapist with over 13 years of experience, I enjoy helping people recover from orthopedic injuries and surgeries and providing treatment and education to aid in injury prevention. I have taken post graduate courses in orthopedics, vestibular rehabilitation, and taping. I have also completed the Calibrate Comprehensive Clinical Pilates training (matwork, reformer, cadillac).

What inspired you to choose this career path?

I became passionate about pursuing physical therapy as a career after being exposed to the profession due to a serious accident I sustained as a child. Through the care I received, I learned first-hand how physical therapists can play a crucial role in people’s lives by helping them to recover from injuries and to return to the activities that bring them joy. This experience instilled in me the desire to assist others the same way I was helped, and that is something that motivates me to this day.

I started my own personal journey with clinical Pilates over 10 years ago while recovering from a sports injury and found the practice to be integral in my rehabilitation. I was further inspired to pursue clinical Pilates as a career path after I found the practice to be essential in my preparation for childbirth and in my post partum recovery.

Why do you choose to work at Treloar?

I worked at Treloar as a kinesiologist prior to becoming a physical therapist. I love working at Treloar because of the fantastic team, fun and professional environment, and numerous opportunities for continuing education.

What are you personally passionate about?

I am most passionate about injury prevention and helping people to achieve their optimal level of function. My practice is evidence based and client centered as I strive to assist my clients to reach their own personal goals.

Outside of the clinic, I enjoy spending my free time exploring the outdoors with my family.
