Selina Chen

Kinesiologist / OR1

What is your background & training?

I graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Kinesiology. My desire to continue learning and interest in active rehabilitation led me to pursue my Master of Kinesiology at UBC. During my undergraduate studies, I spent time with many varsity teams as a part of their medical support staff, gaining extensive knowledge in athletic taping, sports injury management and rehabilitation.

What inspired you to choose this career path?

I was quite active growing up, so I’ve had my fair share of injuries. As a former athlete who struggled to understand them fully, I’ve learned about the importance of exercise prescription to promote healthy recovery and to improve my overall well-being. I want to help others restore functional strength and movement, so they can achieve the quality of life they desire.

Why do you choose to work at Treloar?

The multidisciplinary aspect of the clinic means there is always something new to learn from my colleagues. I love the support that comes from working in such a friendly and welcoming environment!

What are you personally passionate about?

Being healthy and active are two important values in my life that I strive for every day. I want to teach others the benefits of exercising so that they can gain from it as much as I do. The idea that an individual can help others through the gift of knowledge has led me to my passion for promoting exercise as a lifestyle. In my free time, I love being active outdoors, whether relaxing at the beach or hiking and skiing in the mountains.
