I have developed pain, sensitivities and intense muscle tightness throughout my groin and lower abdominal area. I am a 28 year old avid recreational cyclist and believe this may be a result of strains from the sport. I went through a bout of this two years ago and the only the option that helped was a couple months of rest. I’m at my wits end and need some help so I can stay active. Who can I talk to?

Thanks for asking your question. There are a number of reasons you can have developed groin and lower abdominal pain. The first thing we would want to do is to determine whether or not the pain is caused from a musculoskeletal issue.  Groin and lower abdominal pain can also be of visceral origin so we want to make sure that is not the cause.  We do this through taking a thorough history then doing a physical examination that will determine which structure is causing the pain (hip joint pathology, hip flexors or adductor pathology, abdominal strain, sport hernia etc).  From there we will look for muscle imbalances, mal-alignments, or cycling technique issues causing that structure to break down.  We treat a number of very active people so understand your desire to stay active and will work with you to try to allow that.
