I felt a pull in my upper quad area after doing some lunges a few days ago – I went to practice soccer and when I kicked the ball and ran and stopped there is a lot of pain in the upper quad/groin area – Does this just need rest or would a physio benefit?  It doesn’t hurt when I walk but currently there is a dull pain present.

It sounds like you pulled your Rectus Femoris muscle which is one of the quadriceps muscles. With rest it will probably get better in about 10 days.

If it is the first time it has happened you probably don’t have to worry too much about it. Ice and compression with an elastic bandage or thigh sleeve will help. Return to activity gradually, especially in starting to kick a ball again. You should also stretch the Rectus Femoris lightly and often.

Getting physio is not critical but it will make sure you are doing everything correctly as well as look at any possible causes for the problem in the first place.
